Alex and Allain Saulnier account for all the Moncton scoring as Wildcats win 3-2

MONCTON, N.B. – The Saulnier twins beat the Halifax Mooseheads almost single-handedly Saturday night.

Alex and Allain Saulnier combined to score all three goals and added two assists for Moncton as the Wildcats edged Halifax 3-2 in Quebec Major Junior Hockey League action.

The brothers completed the scoring for Moncton (4-3-0) in the first period, with Alex getting two goals and Allain also scoring, as the Wildcats held on for the victory.

Luca Ciampini and Joshua Desmond replied for Halifax (3-3-0).

Roman Will made 22 saves for Moncton, while Anthony Terenzio turned away 23 shots for the Mooseheads.

Elsewhere in the QMJHL, it was: Baie Commeau 6, Cape Breton 3; P.E.I. 3, Val-d’Or 0; Saint John 6 Acadie-Bathurst 2; and Drummondville 6 Blainville-Boisbriand 0.

At Moncton, the Wildcats were on the board after the game was only a minute old. Allain Saulnier scored his fourth of the season after an assist from Alex.

Less than four minutes later Moncton was up by two after Allain returned the favour for Alex.

Midway through the period, Halifax’s Ciampini cut the lead in half, but Alex Saulnier restored Moncton’s two-goal lead on the power play with just over four minutes left in the period.

After the high-scoring opening period, the teams went scoreless in the second.

But after only 1:46 of the third period Desmond pulled the Mooseheads to within a goal, but that was as close as Halifax would get.

At Baie Comeau, Que., Raphael Bussieres scored twice and added an assist as the Drakkar (6-4-1) beat Cape Breton (4-3-1).

Rocket 3, Foreurs 0

At Charlottetown, Olivier Croteau scored a pair and Maxime Lagace made 37 saves as P.E.I. (2-3-1) blanked Val-d’Or (3-4-1).

Sea Dogs 6, Titan 2

At Saint John, Stanislav Galiev and Danick Gauthier each had a pair of goals as the Sea Dogs (3-3-0) beat Acadie-Bathurst (3-3-1).

Voltigeurs 6, Armada 0

At Blainville-Boisbriand, Que., Marc-Olivier Brouillard scored a hat trick and added a pair of assists as Drummondville (3-3-0) hammered the Armada (3-4-0).
