VANCOUVER – A bus driver was caught speeding through a school zone in Abbotsford Tuesday afternoon with kids with special needs on board the bus.
Cst. Ian MacDonald with the Abbotsford Police Department says the bus was caught doing 51 km/hr in the 30 km/hr school zone, located in the 33100-block of Bevan Avenue. Godson Elementary is the school in that area and officers were doing speed enforcement at the time.
“We’ve already had a conversation with the school district,” says MacDonald “and they’re looking into the matter further.”

He says the driver is in his 40s and is from the Fraser Valley. He was issued a ticket for speeding.
“Part of my empathy here for him is that we don’t take mums and dads’ licences away when we catch them speeding through school zones,” says MacDonald.
The driver is a union employee so the first step is a discussion with his manager and police and perhaps, a letter on his file.
