Stolen minivan with toddler inside crashes in north Calgary

CALGARY- A frightening incident on Wednesday afternoon saw a minivan stolen while a toddler was inside, before crashing.

Police say a four-year-old was in the van which was parked at Alex Munroe Elementary School in Huntington Hills. While the mother was picking up another child, she turned around and saw a man jump inside the van then drive away.

Another woman followed the vehicle as it drove away, as police rushed to the scene.

Just minutes later, the van crashed into a median, and the suspect took off running.

Fortunately the child was not seriously injured, and did not need to be taken to hospital.

Police eventually tracked down the suspect and took him into custody.

Victoria Gulka recounts the horrifying experience to Global News.
