Man charged after gun scare in Saskatoon

SASKATOON – A man is facing a number of charges after a gun scare Monday afternoon forced the lockdown of a Saskatoon school.

Police were called out to the 200-block of Avenue S South around 3 p.m. after someone reported a man walking with what seemed to be a firearm.

Minutes later another report was received a man matching the description was seen in the 200-block of Avenue R South.

Officers and the tactical support unit were sent to the scene and Saskatoon Public Schools locked-down Pleasant Hill Community School for about an hour.

The man was tracked to an apartment in the 1800-block of 22nd Street West.

He was arrested and a search turned up three pellet guns, ammunition and body armour.

The 28-year-old Saskatoon man has been charged with possession of a weapon dangerous to the public, carrying a concealed weapon and three weapon probation breaches.

He is scheduled to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on Tuesday.
