Person of interest in custody after Saskatoon school lockdown

SASKATOON – Police were deployed Monday in Saskatoon’s Pleasant Hill neighbourhood following reports of an armed male.

Just after 3 p.m, officers received a 911 call reporting that a suspicious man was seen walking in a park on Avenue S South near Pleasant Hill Community School.

Police said he was seen carrying what appeared to be a gun.

A few minutes later, a man matching the same description was seen in the 200-block of Avenue R South.

Officers and members of the tactical support unit responded to investigate, which led to an apartment in the 1800-block of 22nd Street West.

Around 4 p.m., a 28-year-old person of interest was found and he is in custody.

A perimeter lockdown was in effect at the school but was lifted around 4:08 p.m. This meant all doors were locked except for the front doors.

Officers and staff assisted parents in picking up their children.

The investigation is continuing.
