FCSS looks at community service funding

The Family and Community Support Services hosted an event at City Hall on Monday to provide an opportunity for all FCSS agencies to showcase what they’ve done with funding they’ve received over the past year.

Dawn Vickers, the FCSS Co-ordinator with the city of Lethbridge said that they’re going into a new budget cycle for FCSS funding, “so today was a good opportunity to show off what each organization has been working on.”  The deadline for submitting proposals for funding for the next four years is coming up this fall.

The FCSS’s main focus is to provide funds for not for profit organizations, to help people live successful lives by developing or enhancing their skills at the earliest opportunity.

Vickers said “the FCSS is a very special thing that Lethbridge has, because all the organizations work together and collaborate, with programs often enhancing each other.”

The provincial government provides 80% of the funding for the FCSS, with the other 20 coming from the city. And last year, the alberta government gave 1.89 million dollars to the program with 474 thousand dollars coming from the city.
