EDMONTON – An early-morning carbon monoxide leak has forced the evacuation of Ross Sheppard High School in northwest Edmonton.
A strange odour was detected around 8:00 a.m., prompting school officials to move all staff and students to nearby Westmount Mall. Students with special needs were transported to a nearby school.

A total of 1,850 students are affected and have been dismissed for the remainder of the day. No injuries have been reported as a result of the leak.
Edmonton Fire Rescue are on scene ventilating the school and say the leak happened when an open vent in a boiler room pulled carbon monoxide into the school instead of venting it outside.
The problem has been resolved and students will return to school on Tuesday morning.
