Watch above: an injury to a key player will test the Huskies o-line
SASKATOON – Matt Leung was expected to anchor the Saskatchewan Huskies offensive line in 2014. Six-and-a-half minutes into the first game, Leung’s season came to an end because of a torn bicep.
“It’s heartbreaking,” admits Huskies offensive line coach Travis Sirke.
“He had a great offseason. He dropped some weight and came in (to camp) at 290 (pounds). His agilities were better, he was a little more flexible. It’s heartbreaking to see him go down.”
A pair of lineman will step in to fill the void left at right guard.

Drew Digout will get some time on the line, as well as Josh Butcher, who’s getting his first shot on the o-line after three years on the sidelines.
“Going into my fourth year on the team I’m finally hoping to start getting in and contribute. It’s a great feeling,” said Butcher.
While the right side undergoes some changes, the left side is being locked down by first-year starter Ryan Breadner, who has transitioned from a raw prospect to shut down left tackle.
“I’ve been waiting for this forever,” beamed Breadner.
“I haven’t started since I was in high school. It’s a little nerve racking for me but I love being on the field. It’s a special thing.”
The o-line depth is being tested early, which could be tough, considering Brad Nehring is the team’s lone fifth year player.
But Nehring is confident in the entire group up front, no matter who lines up beside him.
“They’re guys that can step it. It feels like the same guy beside you. That’s how tight and good we are.”
The Huskies offensive line which allowed just two sacks and led a rushing attack that picked up 195 yards on the ground against Manitoba looks to keep it going Saturday in Alberta when they take on the Golden Bears.
