EDMONTON – Alberta’s premier-designate has officially released the names of the people who will be serving as his chief of staff and principal secretary.

Jim Prentice said economist Dr. Michael Percy would be chief of staff to the premier, and strategic policy expert Patricia Misutka would be principal secretary.

“Mike is an esteemed former legislator who earned the respect of colleagues of all political stripes, and is one of Alberta’s preeminent financial figures who has advanced fiscal policy in Alberta,” said Prentice in a news release. “His experience will bring a steady hand to the office of the premier.”

“Patricia Misutka brings to my office experience in senior leadership positions in both the public and the private sector,” Prentice added. “Patricia served as the chief of staff for former Mayor Mandel in three successful consecutive terms that mark a dynamic period of growth and progress in the City of Edmonton, she will be a valuable addition to my office.”

Misutka worked as Mandel’s chief of staff from 2004 to 2013. She has also worked as a consultant on corporate communications, policy and stakeholder issues for clients that include the Edmonton International Airport. She has a Masters in Business Administration.

Following Saturday’s vote, Prentice said he hoped to be sworn in and have a new, slimmed-down cabinet in place in about one week.

On September 7, Prentice announced a five-person transition team – which includes former Edmonton Mayor Stephen Mandel – to “assist in the transition to a new Progressive Conservative government.”

Prentice is expected to be sworn in as Alberta’s 16th premier next week.
