Pedestrian seriously injured after struck by dump truck in LaSalle

MONTREAL — A 28-year-old pedestrian is in hospital in serious condition after being struck by a dump truck.

The accident happened at the intersection of Newman Boulevard and Thierry St. in LaSalle at 10:30 on Thursday morning.

Police said the truck was heading south on Thierry Street when the driver tried to turn right on to Newman Blvd. to head west.

It was at that moment that the pedestrian was struck.

The victim suffered serious injuries to her legs but according to authorities, her life is not in danger.

Another woman who witnessed the accident was also taken to hospital to be treated for shock.

Newman Blvd West, between LaPierre St. and Thierry, was closed as officers investigated the accident.

The 48-year-old truck driver is being questioned by police.
