TORONTO – Protests in Ferguson, Missouri, in response to an unarmed black teenager being fatally shot by police came to a head Wednesday night with police firing tear gas to repel crowds in a violent night in the St. Louis suburb.

Heavily armed tactical officers could be seen aiming rifles at civilians from behind armored trucks as protesters threw rocks and flaming projectiles during protests over the shooting of 18-year-old Mike Brown on Saturday Aug. 9.

Protesters chanted “hands up, don’t” as they faced police over the shooting of Brown, which is being investigated by the FBI for a possible civil rights violation.
