ESTEVAN, Sask. – A 30-year-old man from the United States pleaded guilty to smuggling a firearm into Saskatchewan.

On June 7, a Wyoming man travelling with friends to Canada for a fishing trip was arrested at the Raymond – Regway border crossing.

Upon examination, officers found a loaded 32 caliber handgun in the vehicle’s door panel pocket.

Anthony Eekhoff, 30, claimed ownership of the undeclared weapon and was arrested and charged by the Canadian Border Services Agency (CBSA).

He pleaded guilty on June 9 to smuggling and was sentenced to two days which had already been served.

Eekhoff was also ordered to pay a $3,000 fine.
