A spokesperson for Sonoco said the company chose the location to better attract visitors from Quebec and Maine.

The new casino will begin with a smaller temporary site on Friday, which will feature VLTs and bingo. The company said it is designed to benefit from tourism visits to the area for the World Acadian Congress in Edmundston.

Sonoco says the facility will open with the approval of the New Brunswick Lotteries and Gaming Corp.
