Granville Street Bridge re-opened southbound after fatal crash

Serious crash closes southbound lanes on Granville Street Bridge.

UPDATE: The Granville Street Bridge has re-opened to traffic as of 12:18 p.m.

One man is dead and another has been arrested after a fatal collision on the Granville Street Bridge this morning.

According to police, the man was arrested under suspicion of driving under the influence.

Emergency crews arrived at the scene of the collision at 3:45 a.m. after a man driving a Honda was rear-ended in the southbound lanes of the bridge by another man driving a white Mercedes.

The force of the crash pushed the Honda off to the right hand side of the bridge.

The driver and only person in the Honda died at the scene.

The driver of the Mercedes was given a breathalyzer test at the scene and was arrested.

It is unclear if speed was involved in the crash.

Accident reconstructionists will be heading to the accident location to piece together what happened.

The southbound lanes of the bridge are expected to stay closed until early afternoon.
