Tornado strikes just outside of Boston, Mass.

TORONTO – The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado struck Revere, Massachusetts, north of Boston early Monday afternoon.

Social media lit up with photos of damage sustained by the tornado. Cars were flipped over, trees uprooted, and several homes and buildings sustained significant damage.

A damage team was dispatched to the site by the National Weather Service.

Though it confirmed that it was a tornado, further investigation will determine the strength and path.

According to the Boston Globe, there were no reports of serious injuries.

The weather agency issued a hazardous weather outlook for the area, calling for strong thunderstorms with damaging winds. The threat continues for the rest of the afternoon.
