A 64-year-old man from Nelson died when a small float plane crashed Wednesday morning on Upper Arrow Lake near the town of Nakusp in southeastern B.C.

RCMP Staff-Sgt Dan Seibel said the man who died was the passenger in the float plane; the pilot was taken to Arrow Lakes hospital with what appeared to be minor injuries.

“The investigation is in the preliminary stages,” Seibel said. “The cause of the crash has not been determined.”

The float plane was attempting a landing when it crashed at about 8:30 Wednesday morning. Seibel said local boaters were on scene quickly and pulled the two men from either the plane or the water.

Seibel said he did not think weather was a factor in the crash.

The deceased man’s next of kin have not yet been notified, so police are not releasing his name, Seibel said.
