HALIFAX – Film Nova Scotia and EastLink are creating a fund to support independent productions for the province’s television industry.

The fund will provide investments of up to $150,000 for eligible projects, to a maximum of 20 per cent of the total budget, for television shows created and produced by Nova Scotians.

EastLink, a Nova Scotia-based telecommunications company, will make an initial contribution of $1.3 million and give a percentage of its revenue annually.

The company did not say what percentage of its annual revenue would go to the fund.

To be eligible for the fund, productions must have what Film Nova Scotia and EastLink say is a high Canadian content and have a broadcast licence.

Ann MacKenzie, president and CEO of Film Nova Scotia, says investing in the television industry will increase production activity, which will generate more spending and create jobs.
