VANCOUVER – Two people have been airlifted to a clinic in Gold River on Vancouver Island after an explosion on board a boat.
The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre says the pair, a man and a woman, were on a 24-foot-long motorboat early this morning when the blast happened, off the west coast of the island near Gold River.
Coast Guard were called in at about 4:30 a.m.
Both are believed to have serious burn injuries and after some first aid at the scene, they were rushed to the clinic and turned over Emergency Health Services.
The cause of the explosion is not known at this time.
Correction: An earlier version of this article stated the pair were airlifted to hospital in Gold River, but they were actually taken to a clinic.
