CNE opens: Go on rides then try deep-fried doughnut hamburger

TORONTO – Some oddly fried foods are getting a lot of attention, but there is more to the CNE than deep-fried cola.

The annual exhibition opens today and will play host to acts as varied as Neil Sedaka, Glen Campbell, K-OS and UFC fighters.

There are, of course, traditions such as the International Air Show on the Labour Day weekend, celebrity demonstrations and various horse shows.

The midway still features more than 50 rides, the human cannonball is back and the strong man show is a daily event.

But what’s getting all the early headlines is food, like the Krispy Kreme Burger or a deep-fried peanut butter-and-jam sandwich on a stick.

There is also a taste treat called deep-fried cola, with 800 calories before the whipped cream and cherry are added.
