Eight-million dollars is being given to the Prairie North Health Region immediately so work can begin on detailed planning.
Once those plans are approved, tendering and construction will start.
When completed, the new hospital will be able to house 188 patients for rehabilitation, forensic appraisals and monitoring.
“We feel that a new facility that has more space, privacy and brighter patient areas will encourage healing and provide an overall higher quality of life,” said Saskatchewan Hospital Family Council Chair Celeste Bridgeman.
The Ministry of Health approved additional planning to refine the scope of the project to replace the existing facility in April 2009.
