Woman beaten by police officer in video posted online has medical records, clothing seized

LOS ANGELES – An attorney says California Highway Patrol investigators have seized medical records of a woman seen on video being repeatedly punched by one of the agency’s officers on the side of a Los Angeles freeway.

Chris Arevalo, executive administrator for psychiatric services at Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, confirmed Wednesday that the CHP had served a search warrant on Tuesday.

Attorney Caree Harper, who represents 51-year-old Marlene Pinnock, says investigators also took clothing from the July 1 incident.

CHP Commissioner Joe Farrow couldn’t confirm the seizure but says the agency isn’t trying to make the issue about Pinnock.

Video shows Pinnock being punched in the head as she lay on the shoulder of Interstate 10.

Congresswoman Maxine Waters, civil libertarians and community groups have expressed outrage over the treatment of the woman.
