Watch above: brides and grooms have been left in a lurch after a wedding shop files for bankruptcy
SASKATOON – Simple Sentiments Event Design bridal shop in Saskatoon has filed for bankruptcy, leaving many brides and grooms-to-be at the alter.
Wedding details must be planned with precision and budgeted to a tee. For several couples in Saskatchewan, an unexpected twist arose.
“I just met with her last week to do my final payment. She bought some of my décor off me last week. I didn’t see this coming,” said bride-to-be Tracy Kendel.
She had already paid Simple Sentiments roughly $1,400 before finding out the news on social media.

Many fiancées received email notifications.
“I was having a heart attack. Panic mode knowing that – I knew she had three weddings booked this weekend. She has three weddings booked next weekend – the weekend of our wedding,” said Kendel.
Suddenly, like dozens of other brides, she was left in a lurch. Her friends, family and co-workers have all stepped forward to support her on her big day.
Simple Sentiments owner Tracy Madeline Hussey-Fisher filed for bankruptcy on Tuesday.
Thousands are owed to unsecured, secured and preferred creditors, including the Canada Revenue Agency, the Government of Saskatchewan and banks.
Simple Sentiments’ website and Facebook page have since been shut down.
The business has also been closed. A sign out front notifies customers of the bankruptcy filing and offers a phone number for Deloitte Restructuring, the trustee.
In the meantime, Tracy Kendel has contacted her credit card company and says Visa has been responsive.
“They’ll look into it. They’ve already filed a claim. Also with the bankruptcy letter, once services aren’t rendered next Saturday, there’s another strong claim,” said Kendel.
She says she feels no ill will towards the business or its owner.
“She was very apologetic. She was great to work with. You know, I don’t think she planned this. I don’t think she did things the correct way, but it is what it is,” said Kendel.
She will be tying the knot on July 26.
