Homicide detectives investigate stabbing death at Edmonton Institution

EDMONTON – Homicide detectives are investigating a suspicious death at Edmonton Institution.

Officers were called to the maximum-security prison last night after a 21-year-old inmate was apparently stabbed.

Part of the prison is locked down so guards can search for weapons.

Police have not released further details.

The prison had its first homicide of the year in February when an inmate was stabbed several times in his cell.

Gyozo Barasso, 45, had called for help on his cell phone after the attack but later died in hospital.
