Vehicle thief tracked down by Saskatoon police air support unit

SASKATOON – A man is facing a number of charges following a police chase late Sunday evening that involved the air support unit.

It began when officers spotted a truck being driven suspiciously around 10:30 p.m. A check found the truck had been reported stolen from Biggar.

The driver took off when officers attempted to stop the truck in the 100-block of Avenue H north and a brief chase took place.

The pursuit was called off a short time later and the air support unit followed the stolen truck to the 2800-block of 37th Street West where it was abandoned. A canine unit was brought in to track the suspect down.

A 20-year-old Saskatoon man is facing possession of stolen property over $5,000, evading police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle charges. He was also issued several traffic safety tickets.

He was scheduled to appear in Saskatoon provincial court on Monday.
