Bombers’ Demond Washington nabs player of the week honour

WINNIPEG – Winnipeg Blue Bombers halfback Demond Washington has been named the CFL’s special teams player of the week.

Washington returned a kickoff 96 yards for a touchdown in Winnipeg’s 36-28 come-from-behind win over the Ottawa Redblacks (0-1) last Thursday.

Toronto Argonauts (1-1) quarterback Ricky Ray picked up the offensive player of the week award, Montreal Alouettes (1-1) defensive end John Bowman earned the defensive player of the week nod and and Argos slotback Andre Durie was named the top Canadian.

The Bombers (2-0) will try to start the season with three straight wins as they visit Montreal Friday.
