WINNIPEG — Many people in south Winnipeg awoke to a strong smell and smoke in the air on Saturday morning.
A fire in the Brady Landfill broke out around 5 a.m. Saturday.

A city spokesperson said fire crews were expected to be on scene for most of the day to manage any hot spots that may flare up.
Manitoba Conservation officials were also called in.
No one was hurt in the fire.
Despite the blaze, the landfill is still open to the public.
