Strip clubs have become a rare sight in Metro Vancouver after getting slowly phased out over the past couple of decades, but a Las Vegas style gentleman’s club is now in the works for the Marpole neighbourhood.
It will be housed in a rundown property, formerly a nightclub, under an overpass on SW Marine Drive.
Operators say it will be a ‘classy’ establishment, complete with chandeliers and high-end service.
But some residents are not buying it, saying Marpole is a family community.
“We don’t need such things, not in Marpole, not in a residential area,” says Gudrun Langolf, member of the Marpole Oakridge Area Society.
“Nobody I know of ever said we need a strip club. We talk about community amenities like a bigger library or swimming pool.”
Still, the gallery show lounge expects to open this fall.
The club says a well-managed business won’t cause friction with neighbours.
