Okanagan celebrates Canada Day

Throughout the Okanagan, residents are celebrating Canada’s 147th Birthday.

This year’s Canada Day festivities were packed with Canadian spirit. In Kelowna, events included musical performances on multiple stages through-out Waterfront Park, a children’s play area and a variety of live entertainment.

Organizers of today’s event were estimating crowds to be around 60,000 people.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The 41st annual Kelowna Folkfest took over Prospera Place, where Canada’s ethnic diversity was well represented.

Food stands from countries around the world offered up samples to taste. As well, Prospera Place housed a large maple life birthday cake.

The celebrations will wrap up tonight at 10:30 p.m. with a fireworks display at Tugboat Bay.

Kelowna Transit has extended operating hours for tonight, with buses leaving Queensway Station 30 minutes after the Fireworks end.
