Kevin Smith, a plastic surgeon in Houston, was arriving home from a business trip on Friday when he and his daughter saw a group of suspected burglars coming out of their house.
While most people would have called the police, Smith and his daughter took things a step further — they chased the suspects.
Smith used his cell phone to record video while his daughter, Alana, drove their car after the three suspects in a red pickup truck.
When the would-be bandits realized they were being followed, they put the truck in reverse, slamming into the father and daughter’s car not once – but twice.
The doctor and his daughter decide to keep pursuing the suspects, chasing the men for several more miles until the truck took an about face and aimed right for them.
“They put us in reverse back here, just like in the movies,” said Smith.
The suspects crashed their truck into the Smith’s car again, sending both vehicles into a nearby ditch.
Police arrived minutes later and were able to arrest two of the three alleged burglars. A third suspect got away.
Police don’t recommend that victims take the law into their own hands, but this doctor said he would do it again.
“I’m tired of these people taking advantage of us,” Smith told KHOU, “We’re not going to tolerate it anymore in our neighborhood.”
He said there have been several burglaries on his street.
His daughter suffered whiplash from the crash, but she was released from the hospital.
“I’m proud of my daughter,” said Smith, “My daughter Alana is a tough one, and she is a very, very hard-nosed girl,”
They were able to recover several of their stolen belongings from the back of the truck.
