Rick Orman was born in Calgary on June 9, 1948. He was elected to the Provincial Legislature in May 1986 as the MLA for Calgary Montrose and immediately appointed to Cabinet as Minister of Career Development and Employment and Minister responsible for Lotteries. From April 1989 to December 1992, he served as Minister of Energy with responsibility for the Energy Resources Conservation Board, the Alberta Petroleum Marketing Commission, Alberta Oil Sands Equity and Alberta Oil Sands Technology and Research Authority. His Cabinet responsibilities were also expanded at this time to include the Chair position of the Economic Planning Committee of Cabinet. Mr. Orman was instrumental in the creation of the Natural Resources Conservation Board. Returning to the private sector in June 1993, he founded and operated a number of energy-related companies involved in both international and domestic exploration. He currently serves as a board director of Daylight Energy Ltd. (TSX).
Rick has three children from his first marriage: Sean, Riley and Cayley. He married Susan in 1997 and has two stepchildren: Adam and Quinn Singer. Rick and Susan are the proud grandparents of Bella, Charlise and Lochlan.
