WINNIPEG – A suspect trying to flee a drug raid in a downtown apartment building fell from a ninth floor window while attempting to escape, police say.

Winnipeg police officers, including the heavily armed tactical unit, rushed into the building in the 300 block of Cumberland Avenue at about 9:50 p.m. Sunday. Four men in a suite were arrested safely, but police said a fifth man “appears to have attempted to evade officers through a ninth floor suite window.

“As a result, the male fell six floors onto the third floor parkade, sustaining serious injuries. He is in stable condition,” police said in a news release Monday.

Police said they found guns, ammunition, drugs and money in the suite. All five men, who aged 18 to 26, face drug and weapons charges.

Police talk outside the building at 360 Cumberland Ave. on Sunday.
