CALGARY- Ever heard of a white black bear? Visitors can now check the breed out up close, as the Calgary Zoo has welcomed its newest animal.

“We are so pleased to welcome a bear with this striking colouration,” said curator Mike Teller. “She is an important reminder of the danger of animals becoming habituated to humans, and we will be able to share her story as we educate our visitors about these issues.”

The bear arrived at the zoo on August 31 from Elkford, B.C. The three-year-old had become a problem bear in the area and posed a danger to the public, so the Calgary Zoo was able to take her in and save her life.

She made her public debut on Friday, and the zoo now needs help naming her.
