Calgary skydiver dies near Innisfail

Mike Koo died in a parachute accident near Innisfail, Alberta.

CALGARY – A Calgary man has died, following a skydiving accident over the weekend.

The family of 34-year-old Mike Koo confirms he passed away on Saturday, after his parachute failed to deploy during a jump.

The experienced skydiver was with a group making several jumps near Innisfail at the time.

Koo had completed other successful jumps that day, but on his final jump other skydivers in the group lost sight of him.

When the remainder of the group arrived safely on the ground, they say Koo was unaccounted for.

He was located a short time later in a field near the runway.

RCMP confirm Koo was not with Skydive Big Sky, which is a popular skydiving operation in the area.

Koo leaves behind a common law wife, and his family is searching for answers about what went wrong.

The cause of the accident is still under investigation.
