TORONTO – Environment Canada has issued a special weather statement for parts of Southern Ontario, including the Greater Toronto Area, due to heavy rainfall beginning this morning and continuing Thursday.
York, Durham, Halton, Peel, City of Toronto and Hamilton will be hit by a low pressure system bringing with it showers and isolated thunderstorms.
The weather office says this could result to as much as 30 to 40 millimeters of rain.
The Toronto and Region Conservation Authority has issued a warning reminding people to be cautious of high water levels near creeks and rivers.
The Water Safety Watershed Conditions Statement will be in effect through Friday, June 13.
Meanwhile, Eastern Ontario is currently under a rainfall warning with amounts of 50 to 70 millimeters of precipitation by Thursday evening.
Environment Canada says heavy downpours can cause flash floods and water pooling on roads in certain areas.
