Semi driver has a close call after losing brakes on Connector

A trucker and his girlfriend along with their dog escaped injury after rolling their semi on a runaway lane on the Connector just outside of Peachland.

The semi was heading toward Peachland coming down Brenda Mine Hill when the driver noticed he was losing his brakes.

The driver ran his semi up a steep Runaway Lane near the base of the hill and nearly went to the top of the runaway lane where the semi began to roll back toward the highway.

The driver says he purposely jackknifed the semi to prevent it from rolling all the way down the runaway lane.

The semi was carrying a large load of scrap metal.

The driver says it was his first time on the Connector as he was making his way back to Quebec.

B.C. highways officials are at the scene investigating.
