COQUITLAM —  The Royal Canadian Mounted Police are calling on B.C. youth to get creative.  It’s the annual “Name the Foal” contest and Mounties need help coming up with six names for the newest members of their squad, which are expected to be born this spring at the RCMP breeding farm in Pakenham, Ontario.  The babies may even grow up to become members of the renowned RCMP Musical Ride.

I am delighted to invite youth from the Tri-Cities, Anmore and Belcarra to submit their name suggestions for our 2014 foals, said Supt. Claude Wilcott, officer-in-charge of Coquitlam RCMP, in a statement. The Name the Foal contest is an annual tradition we look forward to, thanks largely to the enthusiasm and creativity of the young people.

To win, kids will have to do better than Seabiscuit.  The entry requirements say names must begin with the letter “L”; contain six letters or less; include the child’s name, age, address and telephone number; and contestants must be 14 years old or younger. Prizes for the best entries include a framed picture of the foal, a T-shirt, pins and other RCMP memorabilia.
