Gellatly Road in West Kelowna closed for at least another month

WEST KELOWNA — It’s already been closed more than three weeks and now there’s news that a busy section of road in West Kelowna will remain closed for at least another month, if not longer.

Work has now begun along Gellatly Road from Witt Road to Angus Drive.

Breaking news from Canada and around the world sent to your email, as it happens.

The road was closed at the beginning of May due to fears of a wash-out.

Gellatly Rd. runs adjacent to Smith Creek. Its banks have already collapsed due to erosion and the district was concerned further erosion could compromise the road.

The District of West Kelowna shut the road down and declared it a state of emergency.

Crews are now installing a 330 metre long culvert to contain the creek.

Part if the project also includes the creation of a multi-use path along that stretch of road.
