VERNON — Another pair of fires overnight in Vernon is sparking more suspicion, so much so that now RCMP have dedicated an officer to investigate the series of small blazes.

Police are looking into 10 – 12 fires in the month of May.

“It’s frustrating,” says Vernon RCMP spokesperson, Gord Molendyk, “we are concerned, we are very concerned that this could lead to big property loss or injury or loss of life.”

The latest fires sparked early Thursday morning.

Both small, both lit in garbage, but the potential for them to cause more damage was a very real possibility.

As for if RCMP believe the same suspect or suspects are behind the fires, Molendyk says “is it likely? There’s a possibility it’s one or two individuals, but at this point we can’t say.”

The officer investigating is now working with a crime analyst to look for potential similarities between the fires and RCMP are reaching out to the public for help.

Anyone with information is asked to call RCMP, fire officials or Crime Stoppers.
