Among the items on the menu at The Big Texan Steak Ranch in Amarillo, Texas is a whopping 72-ounce steak. It’s served with shrimp cocktail, a baked potato, salad, and a bread roll.
First offered in 1962, the colossal steak is less a meal than a challenge to those with big appetites. The rules are simple: finish the entire meal in under an hour, and dinner’s on the house.
That’s a daunting challenge to even the hungriest steak lovers out there – but not to Molly Schuyler.
At 5’7 and 125-pounds, Schuyler enjoyed the steak so much she went back for seconds – and managed to finish both meals in under 15 minutes.
For those doing the math, that’s nine pounds of steak (plus sides) in the time it takes you to get your morning coffee at the drive thru during rush hour.
As Keanu Reeves so aptly put it in the first “Matrix” movie: whoa.
Now before you get down on your own underperforming gut, we should point out that Schuyler isn’t any old lady who walked in off the street.
The Bellevue, Nebraska mother of four is a competitive eater, currently signed with competitive eating organization All-Pro Eating.
This past January, she downed 363 chicken wings in 30 minutes at Philadelphia’s Wing Bowl 22 to set a new world record.
Needless to say, anyone who witnessed this history (and belt line) shattering event was rightly impressed.
“We witnessed history,” Big Texan co-owner Danny Lee told the Amarillo Globe-News. “If there’s a zombie apocalypse, I want to stay away from this girl.”
