KELOWNA — Daily flights from Kelowna to Los Angeles with United Airlines are coming to an unexpected end, but the airline is offering an alternative – a flight from Kelowna to San Francisco.
United began flying from Kelowna to L.A. in December 2012. Shortly after, Westjet announced that it too would be flying from Kelowna to L.A., but the Kelowna airport says United’s switch from L.A. to San Francisco was purely a business decision because the airline’s main hub is in San Francisco.
Kelowna airport manager Sam Samaddar says United’s service to L.A. was working well, with most flights filled to 80 per cent capacity.
Samaddar says seasonal flights from Kelowna to L.A. will continue through next February to accommodate people who have already booked their ski-season packages.
United’s flights from Kelowna to San Francisco will begin September 20.
A return flight will cost about $600.00 CAN.
