Geography

A rural riding on the Ontario-Quebec border, this riding goes as far south as Lake Nipissing (but excludes North Bay), as far west as the outskirts of Timmins, and as far north as Cochrane. West Nipissing and Temiskaming Shores are the largest population centres in this riding.

History

The NDP won the riding of Timiskaming-Cochrane in 2011 when John Vanthof defeated Liberal candidate Denis Bonin by over 6,000 votes. Vanthof took advantage of the retirement of David Ramsay, who had held the riding since it was created in 1999.
