MINNEAPOLIS – Fox News weekend anchor Gregg Jarrett was charged with a misdemeanour after he allegedly became combative and refused to co-operate with police at a bar in the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport.
Jarrett, 59, was arrested about 12:30 p.m. Wednesday at the Northern Lights Grill in the airport’s main terminal. Airport police arrived at the bar after an employee reported that a man “appeared to be acting very intoxicated,” according to information released Thursday by police.
Public arrest information says Jarrett was “unco-operative, resistant, and combative.” No weapons were used. Additional details were not immediately released.
Airport spokesman Patrick Hogan said officers reported Jarrett seemed intoxicated, acted belligerently and refused to follow orders.
He was charged Wednesday with one count of obstructing the legal process/interfering with a peace officer. He posted $300 bond and was released from the Hennepin County Jail early Thursday. He is scheduled to appear in court June 6.
Court records don’t list a defence attorney, and Jarrett did not return an email seeking comment Wednesday. A person who answered the phone at Fox asked that The Associated Press call back for him at another time.
Jarrett hasn’t been on the air since mid-April. In a statement Wednesday, Fox News said Jarrett “is dealing with serious personal issues at this time. A date at which Gregg might return to air has yet to be determined.”
Fox News told Media Bistro earlier this month that Jarrett had asked for time off for personal reasons.
A biography on the network’s website says Jarrett joined Fox in 2002 and is co-anchor of Fox News Channel’s America’s News HQ, on weekends. He is based in New York and has covered a variety of stories, including the George Zimmerman murder trial, the crash of Asiana Flight 214 and the inauguration of Pope Francis.
Before joining Fox, Jarrett was an anchor and correspondent for MSNBC and had worked for Court TV. He has a law degree.
