TORONTO — Get ready to sing and bailar — Gloria Estefan and her husband Emilio are taking the story of their lives to Broadway.
The couple has created On Your Feet!, an English-Spanish musical that chronicles their journey to the U.S. from Cuba and their road to global music success.
“We are very excited to share this story,” said Gloria Estefan in a message on her website, “which is based on hope, determination and the belief that with hard work and passion, our dreams can become our reality.”
The musical, written by Alexander Dinelaris, will be directed by Jerry Mitchell (Kinky Boots) and choreographed by Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys).

It will feature the Estefan songbook, including hits like “Conga,” “Rhythm Is Gonna Get You,” “1-2-3” and “Get on Your Feet.”
On Your Feet! is scheduled to debut in Chicago next summer before opening at the Nederlander theatre in the fall of 2015.
“Sharing our life story through music will give us a new opportunity to honour our roots and, hopefully, to be able to inspire generations to come,” Gloria said in her message.
Estefan, 56, has sold an estimated 90 million records and has collected seven Grammy Awards. She has been married to Emilio since 1978 and the couple has two grown children.
The Estefans live in Miami, where their business interests include several restaurants and two hotels.
