Geography

Hugging Lake Ontario, Beaches-East York is bordered by Coxwell Avenue to the west and Victoria Park Avenue to the east, stretching up to Sunrise Avenue.

The NDP have held this area for the last 40 years, beginning with Marion Bryden, who was MPP for Beaches-Woodbine from 1975 to 1990. She was followed by former Health Minister Frances Larkin, who held the seat for 11 years. When she stepped down, current MPP Michael Prue won a 2001 byelection and has held it ever since, never winning by less than 3,500 votes.

With over 6,400 people per square kilometre, it’s the sixth-densest riding in Ontario. English is the mother tongue of 66.6% of people – the second-highest in Toronto.
