Five homes damaged in enormous Coventry Hills blaze

CALGARY – Five homes have been damaged by an enormous and quick moving fire that sparked in Coventry Hills on Tuesday morning.

The fire started in a garage in the 200 block of Covepark Way N.E. around 3:30 a.m.

When firefighters arrived on scene, they found two garages completely engulfed in flames.

The blaze caused damage to five homes; one suffered moderate damage while another four suffered minor damage.

In addition, two garages were completely gutted.

“We’ve got significant damage here,” says Battalion Chief John Cherweniuk. “We’ve got two garages that were totally destroyed, as well as another three garages that suffered damage from the radiant heat from the fire.”

Investigators don’t yet know what caused the fire, but say they don’t believe it to be suspicious.
