The FBI have arrested fugitive mob boss James “Whitey” Bulger, after a 16-year pursuit.
The FBI arrested the 81-year-old criminal in a California residence with his longtime girlfriend, Catherine Greig.
Bulger is wanted on 19 counts of murder, conspiracy to commit murder, narcotics distribution, extortion, and money laundering, among other things.
The arrest ends a manhunt that served as an embarrassment to the bureau.
Photos and reported of sightings of Bulger came into the FBI for years, originating from all over the United States and parts of Europe, but Bulger became a worldwide sensation for his ability to elude capture.
He was also the inspiration for Martin Scorsese’s 2006 film “The Departed.”
Now that Bulger’s name can be scratched from the FBI’s most wanted list, we take a look at who else remains on the lam:
Semion Mogilevich
Semion “Seva” Mogilevich is wanted for numerous charges stemming from his alleged role in a multi-million dollar fraud scheme. The scheme involved a public company which was incorporated in Canada and headquartered in Pennsylvania between 1993 and 1998. Investors lost over $150 million US. Mogilevich, who allegedly funded and authorized the scheme, was indicted in 2003.
Glen Stewart Godwin
Glen Stewart Godwin escaped from a California prison in 1987, where he was serving a murder sentence. Godwin was arrested in Mexico in 1987 for drug trafficking and sent to a prison in Guadalajara. He allegedly murdered a fellow inmate and escaped prison for a second time in 1991.
Jason Derek Brown
Wanted for murder and armed robbery, Jason Derek Brown has been on the run since 2004. Brown allegedly killed an armored car guard and fled with money from the crime scene. Brown has a masters degree in international business, and a surprisingly large amount of time as the centre of attention in nightclubs, golf courses, and ski slopes.
Joe Luis Saenz
Wanted for murder, kidnapping, rape, and parole violation, Joe Luis Saenz’s crime spree began in 1998. Saenz allegedly killed two rival gang members in Los Angeles. Two weeks later he allegedly kidnapped, raped, and murdered his girlfriend. In 2008, Saenz allegedly killed a fourth victim in Los Angeles County.
Victor Manuel Gerena
The FBI is offering a reward of $1 million for information that leads to the capture of Victor Manuel Gerena. He is wanted for armed robbery and the theft of approximately $7 million from a Connecticut security firm in 1983.
Eduardo Ravelo
Ravelo was indicted in 2008 for racketeering and conspiracy, but the FBI believes his criminal activities began in 2003. Ravelo is a known captain within the Barrio Azteca crime ring, a group that is implicated in numerous murders. Authorities believe he may have had plastic surgery to alter his fingerprints.
Robert William Fisher
Fisher is wanted on three counts of murder, following a 2001 crime in Scottsdale, Arizona. He allegedly murdered his wife and two children, and then blew up their Arizona house. Fischer has ties to New Mexico and Florida, and authorities believe he is in possession of several weapons, including a high-powered rifle.
Alexis Flores
Alexis Flores has been a wanted man since 2000 for allegedly kidnapping and murdering a five-year-old girl in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania.
The final entry on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted list is Osama bin Laden, now listed on the FBI’s website as “˜deceased.’
