Two women dead, one injured in Calgary stabbing spree

CALGARY – Charges are pending against a man, after a fatal stabbing spree at a Penbrook Meadows home over the weekend.

Police rushed to the 6400 block of Penbrooke Drive S.E. around 6:30 p.m. on Sunday. When they arrived, officers found one woman in her 30’s who had died at the scene.

She has since been identified as 29-year-old Fahmida Velji-Visram of Calgary. An autopsy determined she died a a result of the stabbing.

Two other women were rushed to hospital by EMS. One of them, also in her 30’s, succumbed to her injuries. The third victim was treated for non life-threatening injuries.

The suspect left the scene but was found sitting in a rental car in 4900 block of 102 Avenue S.E. around 8 p.m.  He was arrested, and taken to hospital to be treated for self-inflicted injuries.

Neighbours say a man in his late sixties and a middle-aged woman lived at the home where the stabbing happened..

Police say it’s believed to be a targeted attack.
