Secrets of a Hutterite Kitchen, child eye exams, the Hub City Kennel dog show and roller derby were featured Wednesday on the Morning News.
Secrets of a Hutterite Kitchen
Mary-Ann Kirkby is such an interesting woman with an interesting tale to tell, which is apparent as her first book ‘I Am Hutterite’ shot to the top of the charts when it was released, and her followers requested a second book.
‘Secrets of a Hutterite Kitchen’ was released April 15, and again, already a success.
This book can be called a cook book, but it’s so much more than that. It’s Mary-Ann’s journey as she traveled to colonies learning how food is prepared, and what life is really like on the Colony- the life she could’ve had if her parents didn’t move when she was 10.
Her book release is tonight at McNally Robinson Library at 7 p.m., you don’t want to miss it!
Hub City Kennel dog show
Kennel clubbing is a wonderful niche, a separate echelon of dog lovers, whose patience and persistence helps produce some of the finest-quality dogs alive today.

Melissa straps on the skates to try out roller derby
I don’t think I have ever worn roller skates before however having some experience on roller blades I thought this must be similar.
It was not!
It was pretty difficult at first trying to get use to being on four wheels. It was such a pleasure hanging out with the Saskatoon Roller Derby League. They were fun, perky and extremely passionate about the sport.
Throughout the morning Hannah was giving me a history a lesson on how derby has evolved over the year. Now-a-days, what was once a female dominated sport also recruits male skaters. I also really enjoyed how accepting the derby community is.
As they mentioned this morning, you just have to be human to do derby. If you’ve never seen roller derby in action, the home bout may be the perfect opportunity to check it out.
It’s taking place at Prairieland Park May 3 at 6:30 p.m.
Ask a Health Pro – eye examinations
As a guy who put his first glasses on when he was six and is writing this in a pair of contact lenses with 10/20 vision in both eyes, I can be the first to tell you how important it is to get the youngins checked out!
Dr. Guy offered some potent insights to that effect, better than I ever could! Check out the video!
