Video: Two new police dogs have names after the VPD asked Vancouver elementary school students to submit names — and after careful consideration — chose two of them.
Two of the Vancouver Police’s cutest canine crime fighters now have names thanks to local elementary school students.
The police have been running a contest called “Name The Puppy” on their website since April 3, inviting kindergarten to grade 7 students to submit names for the two puppies.
Both of the dogs are male purebred German Shepherds and were born in Saskatoon.
Today, the new names were revealed: Maverick and Griffin.
Students at Vancouver College and Kerrisdale Elementary picked the names.
This is the third time the force has run a contest to name their police dogs.
“Nitro” was named in 1997 and “Diesel” was named in 2006.
