Video: Global BC teaming up with the BC transplant society to sign up 48,000 new organ donors in 48 hours. Reporter Elaine Yong explains how simple it is to sign up – and why the impact is so profound if you do.
Close to 500 people in British Columbia are currently waiting for a life-saving transplant.
Eighty-five per cent of British Columbians agree with organ donation, yet only 19 per cent have registered to be a donor.
In 2013, 30 British Columbians died while on the wait list.
That is why Global BC is partnering with BC Transplant to help sign up 48,000 new donors in 48 hours.
As of Wednesday morning at 9 a.m., BC Transplant has received 5,763 new online registrations. That brings the overall total of British Columbians on the transplant list to 901,637.
The campaign runs for two days: Monday April 21 and Tuesday April 22.
